You can’t get away with misspelling/mispronouncing people’s names

If you thought people will receive it with absolutely no qualms, think again. As much as knowing and using names is important, it is imperative that we know how to spell and pronounce them correctly. It reflects your respect for an individual which you demonstrate through taking that small effort to know about their unique identity.

When a long-time friend, neighbor, or colleague misspells my name as Arthi or Aarti (or several other variants), there certainly is a dip in my spirits…a moment of disappointment that this individual has not yet taken that tiny effort to know me well. Yup, our names are so much us.

Going a step further, especially in business communication, capitalization of the first letter can be a game-changer.
